Windermere Sea Life Centre
2010
Although the Aqua Life Centre on Lake Windermere was themed by Perry Scenic in the late 1990s, it appears on this "news" page because it was "news" to me that it was still there and being appreciated when I stumbled upon it during the Christmas vacation. It was one of the last places our late Dad, David Perry was commercially painting. As I stood in the foyer, right in front of the themed lakeland waterfall and rock formation scene, a family of four stopped to admire it and take photographs. I said out loud to them "My Dad painted that". I think they thought I was crazy, but it is beautifully painted. |

Fairy Glade Backdrop
2010
This backdrop came in for repainting. Since we first made it about 15-20 years ago, this backdrop has been used by a local scenery hire company, Our Head Scenic Artist repainted this backdrop herself, after having recognised it as one originally painted by our founder David Perry. Even before I knew where it had come from, when I first saw it in the workshop, , I simply thought that ( despite being originally painted to a tight budget) it was a taste of theatre scenery backdrop magic. |

Rammstein Tour
2011 - 12
For the Rammstein Tour 2011-12 we added two Complex innovative multi‐layered Backdrops to the existing touring set. and we enhanced features of the existing Industrial Backdrop. The Cells Backdrop was a Kabuki, 70ft wide x 30ft wide and 3ft deep, with scenic painted textured rust fascias, fabric chambers, & a framework incorporating two further backdrops, the middle one of which was partially transparent. The Reveal "Meat" backdrop 70ft wide x 30ft, also a Kabuki backdrop, was especially produced for lighting effects and a stage walkthrough reveal. We undertook scenic finishing, distressing, texturing and moulding of props built by Brilliant Stages, and completed this scenic work during rehearsals on site in Germany. These items included Flakes Claw, Mega Fan, fan fascia, B Stage Catwalk, B Stage Bridge on Scissor lifts, and the UFO. Production Designer for this set was LeRoy Bennett |

Erasure " Tomorrow's World Tour"
2011
We designed and built the Stage Set which comprised 3 off pairs of aluminium sloping towers, 2 half towers, three gargoyles, one of which supported the keyboards. Stone effect surrounds and a Desert Sands backdrop, complimented a Round Stained glass window backdrop. One evening the Production Manager happily emailed that the Gargoyles were scaring him silly while he was alone on the set in the dark after everyone had gone! |

Royal Academy of Arts
2010
"Not many people do this sort of thing as well as you" said veteran designer Terry Brown, who had not been altogether sure his design could be achieved beforehand. The Royal Crest of Arms was to hang invisibly on the front of the Royal Accademy of Arts Building and glow orange at night, in all weathers. As you can see this is a stunning backdrop. The RAA liked it so much they have kept it and plan to use it often in the future. |

Pet Shop Boys set ( on the Take That Tour)
2010
Many demands were to be made of Es Devlins "Coloured Squares Backdrop" for the Pet Shop Boys guest appearance on the TAKE THAT stage, including the need for it to be dropped to the ground and disappeared through limited space very quickly. After trialing various possiblities we came up with a working compromise that captured Es's design and worked in this busy environment. |

TAKE THAT "Progress Tour" 2011
2011
Amongst the many props on the TAKE THAT Progress Touring stage was Misty Buckley's giant pink pipe smoking Caterpillar, ridden horse riding style. The project was fun from start to finish. Enlisting the help of a Horseriding instructor and a dancer helped iron out some of the technical R&D in the production design. The prop had to be comfortable and flexible for performers who were required to move and dance animatedly, but safely for the mounted client, all potentially while in the rain. The prop was produced with our usual drapery expertise and quality art finish, and we were available at short notice to iron out any snag which arose on site, to be sure all continued to work as planned |

Hot Chip
Misty Buckley asked us to make drapes for Neil Carson, Lighting Designer for the Hot Chip tour, who would be in touch. It was Mistys idea to do scenic painted 3D soft banners . Jonathan said "I had previously shown Misty some photos of 3D drapes we had produced for Pink, whilst discussing the set for Tokio Hotel" The sculpted head is represented on the Band's latest album cover. The concept was by Misty and the layout by Neil. This job was last minute, but tucked into the many jobs we had going on at the time . |

Tokio Hotel
We had met Desginer Misty Buckley on a BRIT Awards set a few years ago, and now she asked us to help with her Set for Tokio Hotel. Misty's set for Tokio Hotel had an apocalyptic feel, which appreciated suitably richly finished artwork. Brilliant Stages fabricated the metal structures, and Perry Scenic the backdrops, and fascias which dressed the metalwork. The City Backdrop was 18m wide with an arpeture for the screen. |

KANYE
WEST
June 2009
The making of Kanye West's" Golden Stage" for ( Award Winning ) Designer Es Devlin turned out to be not all that it seems, and it took place in record breaking time. It was set up at the O2 within 14 days of first tackling the production challenges. As you might imagine it is not made of expensive gold nor metal which would have been too heavy, considering it was required to tour as a "backdrop" with groundrows. When it was first erected in the rehersal venue, to everyones delight it went up in less than 30 minutes. |

JOHNNY
HALLYDAY
April
2009
Set Designer Mark Fisher who was overseeing the design of the Touring Set for famous French Rock Singer Johnny Hallyday, asked us to make a Macquette which would provide our interpretation of visual images and illustrations of a Caratoid drawn by French Designer Laura Leonard. We made and painted 600mm high 3D sculpted model, presented to the client along with other Macquettes produced by other European Scenic Production Companies. The client selected their favourite, and Perry Scenic was commissioned in the face of stiff European Competition to produce two huge sculptured Statues to tour with the set of the famous French rock singer Johnny Hallyday. |

On this occasion a combination of quality hand painting and traditional theatrical drapery skills have helped manufacture the big stage looks for this forthcoming tour and enhance the spectacle of this singer's highly acclaimed stage shows |

PINK
"FUNHOUSE" Tour 2009
January 2009
For the Pink Fun House Tour 2009 we made large scenic guazes which were intricately hand painted with a high quality artistic finish. Through our ongoing R&D programme we had crafted some new techniques for this type of scenic artwork, The Designer, Mark Fisher was pleased with quality and clarity of the artwork, and the price. Perry Scenic was delighted to be able to offer good value. The quality of this type of artwork was lifted by a hand painted finish, ( rather than printed) made possible within the budget by crafting new techniques for this type of scenic artwork. |

MADONNA
“STICKY & SWEET” TOUR 2008
September 2008
Leading USA Designer Roy Bennett again commissioned Perry Scenic to produce massive PA Scrims for the wings of the Stadium Tour Set. For the previous Madonna "Confessions" Tour in 2006, Perry Scenic Produced similar huge PA Scrims, those featured Rearing Horse artwork and special effects finishing. For both tours high demands were made of the PA Scrims. They had to cover huge sets of speakers, and combine acoustic transparency with special effects finishing which would endure the rigours of world touring. For the "Sticky and Sweet" tour, 70ft by 40 ft PA scrims represented angled 3D metallic letter" M's". Each scrim had to derig and pack away in minutes, to quickly free the sound crew to begin work on equipment at the end of the show. The scrims remained in tip top condition throughout the gruelling world tour, so much so that there was no need to order a new set for the DVD shoot at the end of the run. Perry Scenic researched several alternative design proposals to produce the special effects. Roy finally opted for our special effects trompe d'oleil painted option, confident we would deliver the required quality. As can be seen from the reference photograph taken in the most unflattering conditions of natural daylight ( the paint effects are designed for nightime lighting under show lights), even here the "M"'s are delivering a stunning 3D effect, remember this is a painted scrim! |
